‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Without The Riddler or 3D

tdkr1 The Dark Knight Rises Without The Riddler or 3D

Our buddy Geoff Boucher over at LA Times Hero Complex spoke with Christopher Nolan last night about the upcoming Batman film, which is now titled The Dark Knight Rises, and managed to get a few (and I mean a few) details out of him. One of said few details came when Chris told Geoff, “It won’t be the Riddler,” when talking about the film’s possible baddie line-up, eliminating the strongly rumored villain and the casting theories surrounding it. Chris also mentioned he managed to talk down Warner Bros. from throwing Batman on the 3D bandwagon to instead approach the film with other high definition technology, such as IMAX. Geoff tried to squeeze a few more juicy details out of the acclaimed director, but he was met with resistance.

Nolan plays things close to the vest — he’s one of the few filmmakers of his generation who actually does wear a vest — and he chuckled when I tried to get a few more details out of him. “Oh, you know me, I don’t talk.” He began our conversation by comparing it with a visit to the dentist’s office. Well, if so, he’s a patient who never opens wide. I asked if he could imagine a time when Warner Bros. would let a filmmaker shoot a Batman script where the villain isn’t one of the signature creations from the comic books. “Ah, Geoff Boucher, master of the leading question,” he said with a chuckle.

Keeping the focus on Bruce Wayne, the trilogy’s final installment will see many of the same characters return and have a few new ones pop-up. Head over to LA Times Hero Complex to get the full rundown on the interview, and stick tuned for updates soon. And congratulations to FilipeG for picking Oct. 27 in the Batman 3 Title Contest! You win a copy of Inceptionon Blu-ray!
